Daye's 33 lead Deacons past Caldwell 104-80

BLOOMFIELD, NJ (December 9, 2010) - The men's basketball team ended their two-game losing streak in emphatic fashion Thursday night, as they outran the Caldwell College Cougars in the opening matchup of the club's 2010 CACC schedule.  The victory moved Bloomfield to 3-3 overall, and 1-0 in CACC play.

The Cougars were able to stay with the high-powered Deacons offense through the first seven minutes of the contest, playing the home team to an even draw at 16 apiece.  But Coach Holmes' squad would take their game into a gear Caldwell simply could not match, ripping off a 26-2 run in just six minutes to blow the game open and grab a 42-18 lead.  Hitting an even 60% of their attempts from the field in the opening frame, Bloomfield was anchored by senior guard Gage Daye, whose runner in the lane as time expired gave the All-American 20 points for the half and his team a 60-33 advantage.

Caldwell would climb back into the game, shrinking the deficit to as little as 15 points midway through the final 20 minutes of action.  But in the end Daye and his cohorts would not relinquish their sizable advantage, putting the Cougars away and rolling to the 24-point victory.

Daye totaled a game-high 33 points in all, to go with eight rebounds and five assists on 12-23 shooting.  Fellow senior Ryan Rodrigues continued his streak of outstanding play to start his final season at Bloomfield, pouring 23 points and finishing the night a perfect 5-5 from beyond the arch.  Steve Henderson connected on all four of his three-point attempts as well, finishing with 12 points in just 19 minutes of action.  Mike Williams rounded out the Deacons who finished the evening in double-figures, notching 10 points, eight rebounds and three assists in the win.

The team returns to action Saturday, December 9 with a CACC road contest against North Division rival Concordia College.  Tip-off is scheduled for 3:00 PM.
