Falcons top first-place Deacons 90-74

Sampson's double-double can't lead Deacons to season sweep of Felician

RUTHERFORD, NJ - The men's basketball team fell to 10-2 in CACC play Tuesday night, as the Felician College Golden Falcons earned a season sweep with Coach Holmes' squad by taking their second meeting of the season 90-74 at Felician.

The Deacons fell behind in the early going, trailing by as many as 11 points through the first 20 minutes of play and struggling to find their rhythm offensively.  They were able to overcome a frame in which they shot 38% from the floor, and fought back to trail the Falcons by just a bucket at 34-32 at intermission.

It seemed as if the Deacons would be able to overcome their first half struggles and separate themselves even further in the North Division standings from the second-place Falcons as they completed the comeback to take a 37-36 advantage in the early stages of the second half.  But a 9-0 Felician run followed the brief Deacons lead, putting Bloomfield's hopes of a comeback in serious jeopardy.  An 11-2 spurt was soon to follow, putting BC down 15 and putting the margin out of reach for the high-powered Deacons offense.

Chris Sampson put forth one of his finest performances of the season in the loss, posting a team-high 26 points and 17 rebounds.  Gage Daye notched another 20-point scoring performance, dropping an even 20 while dishing out six assists.  Ryan Rodrigues continued his solid play with 14 points in the loss.

The team returns to the hardwood Thursday, February 11 with a road CACC contest against Nyack College.  Tip-off is scheduled for 8:00 PM.
