BRONXVILLE, NY - The men's basketball team got all they could handle from the Concordia College Clippers Tuesday night, but Coach Holmes' squad prevailed to move to 8-1 in CACC play with a hard-fought 75-68 road victory.
It seemed as if the Deacons might be headed for their second-consecutive conference loss in the contest's early going, as the Clippers stormed out of the gate with an 18-6 run through the first seven minutes of play and controlled the action for the better part of the first half. The Deacons were able to narrow the considerable gap before intermission, trailing by just a single point at 32-31 at the break.
In the second half, the high-powered offense that had been out of synch for a game and a half awoke for Bloomfield, as the Deacons shot 53% from the floor and a scorching 75% from beyond the arch to stay even with the Clippers. The contest remained close till the waning moments, when BC was able to pull away with clutch free-throw shooting and big shots that left the Clippers struggling to keep pace. An 84% effort from the charity stripe proved to be the difference, as the Deacons were able to add 16 second-half points at the line to seal the big CACC victory.
Gage Daye returned to his dominant form in the win, dropping 27 points and pulling down seven rebounds.
Ryan Rodrigues continued his hot shooting off the bench with another double-figure scoring performance, this time dropping 14 points on 6-9 shooting from the field.
Emery Mitchell made his presence felt in the paint, joining the startling lineup and notching nine points and seven rebounds in the win.
The team returns to the hardwood Thursday, February 4 with a home CACC contest against Dominican College. Tip-off is scheduled for 8:00 PM.
