Lady Deacons run winning streak to three with 3-0 victory over Nyack

BLOOMFIELD, NJ - The women's volleyball team won their third-straight CACC contest Tuesday evening, as they rolled to a 3-0 victory over North Division rival Nyack College in the Deacons' Den.  The victory moves Coach Valbrun's squad to 3-5 overall, and 3-3 in CACC play, and back in the thick of the North Division playoff push.

The Lady Deacons stormed out of the gates in the match's opening set, rolling to an 11-4 advantage through the game's first 15 points.  Bloomfield never looked back, cruising to a 25-16 set victory to take a 1-0 lead in the contest.  Their counterparts would rally in the second set, though, as Nyack held a 12-9 lead at the halfway mark of game number two.  But the Lady Deacons would eventually draw even at 16 apiece, and orchestrated a 9-4 run to close out the set and take a commanding 2-0 lead in the match.

It appeared as if the home team would cruise to a victory in the third set, as Bloomfield was able to mount a 14-5 advantage through the frame's first 19 points.  But Nyack would not go quietly, ripping off nine straight points to climb back into the game and cut the deficit to two.  The Lady Deacons were able to withstand the furious charge, though, and thwarted any hopes of a Nyack comeback by outscoring the Lady Warriors 9-8 over the final 17 points, taking the set 25-22 and the match three games to none.

Uerequenia Pereira led the offensive charge for Bloomfield in the victory, posting 12 kills in the match, while Suzy Zanette chipped in seven kills of her own.  Brittany Devries captained the defensive effort, notching 19 digs in the victory.  Zanette made her mark serving as well, tallying five aces in the win.

The team returns to action Thursday, September 30 with a home match against CACC rival Post University.  The opening whistle is set for 7:00 PM.
