NYACK, NY
(January 11, 2011) - The men's basketball team ran their record to a perfect 6-0 in CACC play Tuesday afternoon, as they cruised to a 99-63 victory over North Division rival Nyack College in a conference road clash.
Moved to a 4:00 PM start due to impending inclimate weather, the change in routine had no ill effects on the Deacons' vaunted offensive attack. The Warriors were able to keep pace through the first five minutes of the contest, but Bloomfield would capitalize on 12 Nyack turnovers in the opening period and notching 44 points in the half. The club's trademark full-court press stifled the Nyack offense, limiting the Warriors to just 32% shooting from the field and a 1-9 effort from beyond the arc. The Warriors could muster just 28 points in the opening frame, trailing their visiting counterparts 44-28 at intermission.
The North Division's top squad refused to take their foot off the gas in the second stanza, putting to bed the struggles that marked the beginning of the second half in the club's most recent contests. The Deacons were able to rip off a 12-0 run to get things started in half number two, squashing any hopes of a Nyack comeback. Bloomfield cruised from there, topping 90 points for the fourth time this season and improving to 9-4 overall.
"Any time you can pick up a conference victory on the road, it's certainly a good day," Bloomfield head coach
Gerald Holmes said. "We're off to a good start so far in conference play. We just need to keep it going and continue to play smart basketball."
Senior guard
Gage Daye was the headliner in the triumph, dropping a game-high 29 points on 8-17 shooting, including a 10-11 performance from the free-throw line.
Ryan Rodrigues returned to the starting lineup and made his presence felt from beyond the arc, connecting on five of his six three-point attempts to finish with 17 points. Freshman
Steve Henderson notched 11 points, while
Matt Wafula rounded out the Deacons in double-figures with 10 points and four rebounds.
The team returns to action January 19 when they travel to take on North Division rival Felician College. Tip-off is scheduled for 8:00 PM. In their previous meeting, the Deacons
prevailed over the Falcons 95-72 on January 4.
