Lady Deacons fall to Dominican 3-0 in CACC opener

BOX SCORE

ORANGEBURG, N.Y. (September 13, 2011) -
Bloomfield's women's volleyball team moved to 1-1 on the season and 0-1 in conference play Tuesday evening, as they dropped a 3-0 road decision to North Division rival Dominican College in the opening match of their 2011 CACC schedule.

The Lady Deacons fell behind in the early stages of the first set, with Dominican quickly grabbing a 10-5 advantage.  Bloomfield was unable to move to within four points of the home team, the Chargers pulling away in the set's latter stages to take the opener 25-13.

The visitors quickly rebounded in the second set, keeping pace with Dominican and trailing 12-11 midway through the stanza.  But the Chargers would execute at 13-3 run to close the frame, handing the Lady Deacons a 25-14 loss to take a commanding 2-0 lead in the match.  Bloomfield was unable to recover from the Dominican spurt, falling behind in the third set 10-4 and eventually coming up on the short end of a 25-16 score to conclude the match.

Junior Clodesh Marie Montano (Carolina, Puerto Rico) and sophomore Dominic Spivey (Newark, NJ) led the offensive effort for Bloomfield in the loss, each totaling seven kills.  Gabriella Betoni (Belo Horizonte, Brazil) led the Lady Deacons with nine digs, while Montano and Allison Hart (Pagosa Springs, CO) each tallied seven digs in the setback.

Bloomfield returns to action Thursday, September 15 when they travel to face nearby conference rival Caldwell College.  Start time for the match is set for 7:00 PM.
