Bloomfield Men's Basketball Wins Overtime Thriller Against Chestnut Hill, 79-76

Box Score BOX SCORE

Bloomfield, NJ -
Claude Blue and Dondre Whitmore combined for nine points in overtime and Kevin Udo had 16 total rebounds and five blocks as Bloomfield College held on for a 79-76 overtime win over Chestnut Hill College.

Chestnut Hill (1-8, 0-3 CACC) gave Bloomfield (4-5, 3-1 CACC) all they could handle as the teams traded leads 12 times over the course of the first half.  Bloomfield built a seven-point lead when Mike Williams converted a three-point play at the 12:02 mark, but that would be the Deacons' biggest lead of the half.

The second half saw more of the same as Bloomfield and Chestnut Hill exchanged leads 21 times.  Bloomfield opened up an eight-point lead twice, but each time the Griffins were able to answer.

Bloomfield held a 66-63 lead with 1:34 left after Blue hit a free throw, but Filip Sekulic answered immediately with a clutch three-pointer for the Griffins just 22 seconds later.

The Deacons had one final shot to win the game at the buzzer, but a three-point attempt by Steve Henderson rolled around the rim and out to send the game to overtime.

In the extra frame, Blue hit a layup quickly and Whitmore followed with a three-pointer to give BC a quick five-point lead.  Chestnut Hill again came storming back and a Taylor Trevisan three-pointer at the 1:27 mark gave the Griffins a 74-73 lead.

However, the game would tilt the Deacons way for the final time when Marvin Williams, Whitmore and Udo hit six consecutive free throws to seal the win for Bloomfield.

Blue led the way for Bloomfield with 21 points and 8 rebounds.  Whitmore added 17 points as well.

Bloomfield now has 11 days off before returning to action.  They will take on Post University on December 18 at home at 8:00pm.
