DEACONS FOCUS IN ON 1ST VICTORY OF THE SEASON 4-0 OVER PHILLY U

PHILADELPHIA, PA - The Bloomfield College baseball team picked up their first win of the 2014 season with a 4-0 victory over the Rams of Philadelphia University at Alumni Field in P.A. this evening. The Deacons (1-8, 1-1) earned a spilt in double-header action against the Rams (7-10, 1-1) who picked up a 7-6 decision in Game 1. Carlos Flete (Jamaica, NY) drove in 3 of the Deacons 4 runs on a 2-for-4 performance in Game 2 while Lucas Junger (Waretown, NJ) went the distance, scattering 7 hits, allowing no runs and striking out 6. Stephen Dickerson (Columbus, OH) picked up the loss in the 2nd game for the Rams as both teams sit at 1-1 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) play.

Philly U took game 1 after scoring the go-ahead run in the bottom of the 8th inning off reliever Justin Eclavea (South San Francisco, CA). The sophomore, Eclavea (0-3) took the lost on the mound, giving up 2 runs on 4 hits against the 10 batters he faced. Senior Dominique Parra (Bronx, NY) went 2-for-4 in the contest driving in 2 runs to anchor Bloomfield's offense in the first game the setback.

GAME ONE BOX SCORE

After missing a golden opportunity in game 1 the Deacons would find their groove striking in the top of the 4th inning of game 2. Junior Ariel Tineo (Valley Stream, NY) would single to left field to begin the frame. Tineo would later score on a 2-out single by catcher David Rivera (Bay Shore, NY). Flete stepped to the plate and smacked a double into right field knocking in two runs and Bloomfield had command of the game 3-0. Flete added an insurance run for the Deacons in the 9th inning, this time doubling to left field to plate a baserunner. On the mound Junger (1-1) had all the offense he would need, going the distance and closing the game out with the Rams grounding into a double play. 

Bloomfield's next CACC challege comes this Sunday, March 23rd when the travel north on the Garden State Parkway to face the Chargers of Dominican College. The first pitch of the scheduled doubler-header is set to be thrown at 12:00 pm.
