Box Score 2 HOCKESSIN, DEL – Bloomfield suffered their 6
th and 7
th consecutive loss Saturday after a doubleheader on the road against Goldey-Beacom College. The Lightning swept the Bears at Doyle Field, 3-2 and 3-0, in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference baseball action. Bloomfield fell to 5-10-1 overall after the setbacks in Hockessin and 0-4 in conference play while Goldey-Beacom improved to 5-3 in league games and 7-15-1 overall.
Game one saw
Yordani Nicasio (Paterson, NJ) pick up his first loss of the season (1-1) after striking out three and allowing the go-ahead run and two hits over 2 2/3 frames in relief for starter,
Darwin Matos (Clifton, NJ). The Bears got on the board first in the opening game, driving in two runs in the top of the 4
th.
Anthony Elefante (Forked River, NJ) scored on a wild pitch after drawing a walk to get on base. Left fielder, Anthony Munoz (West New York, NJ) also came across home plate giving the visitors a brief lead with the Lightning drawing even in the bottom of the frame off of Matos.
In Game 2, Bloomfield was shutout by the home team's freshman pitcher who registered a complete game, striking out seven Bears, walking three and scattering six hits. Sophomore
Kevin Mojica (West New York, NJ) took the loss in his first decision of 2018 as he surrendered three runs in the third inning and shared pitching duties with
Anthony Maldonado (Newark, NJ) who came on in relief during the 5
th inning. On the hitting side,
Juan Reina (Paterson, NJ) belted a double in game 2 but the Bloomfield offense couldn't string their hits together to drive in a run.
With the impending weather forecasts for the week it's hard to say exactly when the Bears next action will come but the schedule is set for a Tuesday afternoon showdown with Dominican College. The CACC battle is slated as the Bears home opener at Westside Park with a 12:00 pm Game 1 first pitch.
