Myrtle Beach, SC- The Bloomfield baseball team opened their 2009 with a double header split this afternoon. The Deacons were defeated 2-1 in ten innings by Mercy College and defeated Queens College by a score of 12-4 in game 2.
BC led 1-0 in game one until Mercy evened the score with 2 outs in the 9th on a well placed single. Mercy would win the game with 2 outs in 10th on a walkoff hit by Matt Walsh. BC would only muster 5 hits in the first game, with
Kevin Lauranzon notching the Deacons only RBI.
Sean Stimpfel had a strong start for Bloomfield pitching 6 1/3 innings, surrendering only 3 hits and striking out 6.

The Deacon bats would come to life in game 2, totaling 11 hits en route to a 12-4 victory over Queens College. BC got another strong outing from pitcher
Matthew Snyder (1-0) who allowed 1 run over 6 innings and struck out 5. The Deacon offense was fueled by
Kevin Lauranzon, who had 3 hits in game 2 driving in 2, and
Alberto Ruiz who finished 4-5 with 1 rbi. Anderson Minyetti also stole 3 bases in the win. The victory over Queens also marked the first win in the career of head coach
Jeff Watson.
