Daye's triple-double propels Deacons past Post 105-99

Brantley scores 22 off the bench to help keep Bloomfield's perfect CACC record

WATERBURY, CONN. - The men's basketball team moved to a perfect 7-0 in CACC play and won their sixth straight contest Tuesday night, as they edged the Post University Eagles 105-99 in a midweek road matchup.

The Deacons trailed by a dozen points at the midway point of the first half, their offense struggling to kick into high gear and the Eagles feeding off the energy of the Post University faithful.  But BC was able to weather the storm, orchestrating a 17-0 run of their own to take a 26-21 lead in a span of just three minutes of play.  They were able to build the lead to an even 10 when the horn sounded, holding a 42-32 advantage through the opening period.

It was a lead they would not relinquish, mounting as much as a 15-point advantage over the final 20 minutes of action.  The Eagles were able to make a late charge to cut into the deficit, but the comeback effort ultimately proved fruitless, as the Deacons were able to hold on and clinch the game from the free-throw line, finishing the night at an outstanding 80% from the charity stripe.

Junior guard Gage Daye paced the offensive onslaught for the Deacons, notching his first triple-double of the season with a 26-point, 11-rebound, 11-assist effort that might have been the best of his remarkable campaign.  Senior Elias Brantley had his best performance of the season as well, with the unsung hero dropping 22 points off the bench and connecting on three of his four three-point attempts in just 22 minutes of play.  Wilson Pilarte completed the three-headed monster for the Deacons, shooting 8-15 from the floor and notching 20 points in the win.  Chris Sampson was the fourth Deacon to finish in double figures, posting a solid 10 points and eight boards in the victory.

The team returns to action Saturday, January 30 with a road CACC contest against Goldey Beacon College.  Tip-off is scheduled for 3:00 PM.
