PHILADELPHIA, PA - The men's basketball team fell to 11-3 in CACC play and 17-6 overall Saturday afternoon, as they were edged by the Philadelphia University Rams 81-77 in a rematch of last season's CACC Tournament Final.
The Deacons were able to control the pace through the early stages of the first half, building a lead that ballooned to as many as seven points through the first 13 minutes of action. The Rams were able to fend off a BC offense that connected on nearly 43% of their three-point tries in the frame, and fought back to take a seven-point advantage of their own with four minutes remaining. The Deacons countered with a spurt of their own, closing out the half by knotting the score at 39-39 heading into the break.
The contest continued to be a seesaw affair in the second half, with the Deacons answering every spurt the Rams could orchestrate. But they could never close the gap far enough, as the Rams were able to keep the high-powered Bloomfield offense at bay until the final horn sounded, sending the Deacons to their third CACC loss of the season.
Junior guard
Gage Daye was the game's high scorer, dropping 29 points while pulling down eight rebounds, dishing out seven assists and swiping three steals in the loss.
Elias Brantley and
Ryan Rodrigues helped anchor the backcourt with a pair of rock-solid performances, the two guards going for 15 and 13 points respectively.
The club returns to action Tuesday, February 17 with a home contest against Post University. Tip-off is scheduled for 8:00 PM.
