Brantley paces Deacons in 94-76 win over Caldwell

Senior's 21 points lead Bloomfield to victory

CALDWELL, NJ - The hot shooting of senior guard Elias Brantley headlined a potent Bloomfield offensive attack Saturday afternoon, as the Deacons improved to 14-3 in CACC play and 20-6 overall with a 94-76 victory over the rival Caldwell College Cougars.

Brantley came out scorching from the opening whistle, notching the Deacons' first seven points in the contest and pushing the tempo at will in transition.  He didn't stop there, adding a pair of threes on consecutive trips to push the Bloomfield advantage to 23-7 with just over 13 minutes to play in the opening frame.  The Deacons would continue to mount a considerable advantage by shooting 53% from beyond the arch - Ryan Rodrigues was the best Deacons sharpshooter on the afternoon, finishing 5-7 from three and registering 19 total points.

The Cougars had no answer for the high-powered Bloomfield attack, and trailed 56-34 at the break.  Though they were able to outscore the Deacons 42-38 over the final 20 minutes of play, the lead proved to be too much to overcome, as Coach Holmes' squad saw four players reach double figures en route to their 20'th win of the season.

Gage Daye joined Rodrigues by dropping 19 points, dishing out three assists and swiping three steals in the win.  Matt Wafula provided a formidable presence in the post, notching 11 points, three blocks and a pair of steals to go with his five rebounds.

The team returns to action Sunday, February 28 with a road contest against Wilmington University.  Tip-off is scheduled for 3:00 PM.
