PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - The Bloomfield College baseball team fell to 4-16 overall and 3-7 in conference play Saturday afternoon, as they dropped both legs of a CACC road doubleheader against Chestnut Hill College by scores of 6-2 and 2-1.
In the opener, the Deacons were able to amass 12 hits, with four starters registering at least two hits in the contest, but the visitors would only plate two runs in the top of the sixth inning on RBI hits by juniors
Paul Chong (Rutherford, N.J.) and
Reyvis Rivas (Union City, N.J.). Chestnut Hill would grab an early advantage, scoring two runs in the bottom of the first off Bloomfield rookie
Holvin Figueroa (Vineland, N.J.). The Griffins would push the lead to 5-0 with a three-run frame in the bottom of the fifth, putting the game out of reach for the Deacons.
Chong finished the opener 3-for-4, while senior
Anthony Koban (Elmwood Park, N.J.) went 3-for-5. Rivas and junior
Eduardo Valdez (Santo Domingo, D.R.) each finished the game 2-for-4.
In game two, Bloomfield sophomore righty
Francesco Scudiero (Brooklyn, N.Y.) surrendered two runs (one earned) over eight innings of work, yielding six hits while striking out four. Chestnut Hill tallied a run in the bottom of the third on an RBI single, and added an unearned run in the bottom of the fifth on a Bloomfield passed ball to push the lead to 2-0. Rivas would bring the Deacons to within a run in the top of the sixth with an RBI single, but it would be the closest Bloomfield would come to erasing the two-run hole. The Griffins would hold on the rest of the way, handing the Deacons a tough one-run setback and dropping the club to four games under .500 in conference play.
Bloomfield returns to action Wednesday, April 10, when they welcome CACC rival Nyack College for a midweek conference doubleheader at Westside Park. First pitch for the opener is scheduled for Noon.
