DEACONS BASEBALL DROP FIRST GAME OF THE SEASON 7-1 TO DOWLING

Box Score BROOKHAVEN, N.Y. -  Bloomfield College baseball suffered a loss in their first action of the season, 7-1 to the Golden Lions of Dowling College. The loss put the Deacons at 0-1 on the young season while  the Golden Lions won their fourth straight to improve to 5-2 on the season.

The Golden Lions went ahead early with a run in the bottom of the first.  Starting pitcher Fracesco Scudiero (Brooklyn, NY) surrendered a lead off walk to Jonathan Cruz (Levittown, NY) who then advanced to second on a passed ball.  A single through the left side by RJ Going (Islip, NY) put runners in the corners and JC Brandmaier's (Bellmore, NY) base hit to right brought Cruz in for the first run of the game.

Brandmaier knocked in another run in the third and the Golden Lions plated another run after taking advantage of a Bloomfield defensive miscue to go ahead 3-0.

The Deacons got their first hit of the afternoon when Joe Meola (Maplewood, NJ) singled to right in the top of the fifth. Two batters later, a RBI single by Dominique Parra (Bronx, NY) to left would bring home Meola, scoring Bloomfield's lone run of the game.

Dowling added three in the bottom of the sixth for the 7-1 lead en route to the non-conference win.

Meola finished up the day going 2-for-4 with a run scored and a stolen base. Parra also went 2-for-4 with a RBI. Scudiero picked up the loss (0-1)  giving up 1 run on 2 hits and striking out 1. Justin Eclavea (South San Francisco, CA), Jose Toribio (West New York, NJ) and Lucas Junger (Waretown, NJ) each saw 2 innings of action in relief.

On the Golden Lions side Brandmaier finished the day 3 for 4 with three RBIs and a run scored. Starter, Tyler Hardison (Shirley, Ny) picked up the win (1-0) going five innings allowing just one hit and striking out five.

Bloomfield now packs their bags for Spring Break as they travel to the "Sunshine State" to play in the Palm Beach Challenge. The Deacons first game is set for Sunday, March 9th against Assumption College at 5:00pm. The game will be played at the Santaluces Sports Complex in Palm Beach, FL.
