LITTLE FALLS, NJ - The lights shined bright on the Bloomfield College Baseball seniors as they led the team to an 8-7 victory over Caldwell College at Yogi Berra Stadium. The win moved the Deacons to 9-11 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) play and 11-22 overall on the season. The Cougars drop to 6-27 overall and a 3-17 mark in CACC games.

Senior Allen Rivera (Vineland, NJ) started on the mound and also served as the lead off batter with Bloomfield stacking the top of the line up with honored players. Kevin Caraballo (North Bergen, NJ), Joe Meola (Maplewood, NJ), Paul Chong (Rutherford, NJ) and Dominique Parra (Bronx, NY) all recorded at least one hit along with Rivera in their final home game as Deacons. Senior David Martinez (Staten Island, NY) got in on the action coming on in relief for the 8th and 9th innings.

Bloomfield opened up the scoring in the 2nd inning after Parra tripled and later scored on a sacrifice fly by Shadi Azar (South San Francisco, CA). After Caldwell scored a run on a double by Paul Nyitray in the top of the 3rd, the Deacons would retake the lead on a 2 RBI single by Caraballo in the bottom of the inning. Freshman Ben Thomas (Burlington, NJ) drove in a run in the 4th inning and Bloomfield seemed to be cruising with a 4-2 lead. Caldwell exploded in the 6th with 4 runs and took a 7-5 advantage to the bottom of the 7th inning.

The Bloomfield seniors would rally as Caraballo singled to drive in a run, followed by a 2 RBI double by Meola scoring the eventual go ahead run and the Deacons secured the victory in front of the celebratory crowd. Rivera picked up the win on the mound while Martinez notched the save.

Bloomfield will conclude their 2014 campaign with one more contest against Caldwell College on Sunday, May 4th. The Cougars will be celebrating their Senior Day with a scheduled 12:00pm first pitch.
