DEACONS SLIDE PAST CALDWELL 5-2 IN FINAL GAME OF THE SEASON

Box Score

CALDWELL, NJ - The Bloomfield College Deacons baseball team ended their 2014 season with a 5-2 victory over Caldwell College at Kiwanis Oval this afternoon. The Cougars honored their 15 seniors before the game as Bloomfield finishes the year with a 12-22 record overall and 9-11 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) play.

The Deacons pushed across all 5 of their runs in the 4th inning capped off by a 2 RBI double down the left field line by freshman, Ben Thomas (Burlington, NJ). That would prove to be more than enough run support for starting pitcher, Justin Eclavea (South San Francisco, CA) who allowed just 1 run on 2 hits in 4 innings of work, and struck out 3 batters. The Cougars scored their 2nd run on a homer by senior, Stephen Dodd in the bottom of the 6th off of reliever Jose Toribio (West New York, NJ). Caldwell could not take advantage of scoring opportunities in the 8th or 9th innings and the Deacons picked up their second straight win over the Cougars in three days.

Seniors Dodd, Thomas Pisano, Jack Joyce, Joe O'Donnell and Stephen Luczaj each had the hits for Caldwell. Senior pitchers, Dan Bartlett, Chris DeRogatis, Nick Karalekas, Al Etter, Robert Bennetti and Steve Valenti also took the mound in their final game as Cougars. The Bloomfield seniors, Allen Rivera (Vineland, NJ), Kevin Caraballo (North Bergen, NJ), Joe Meola (Maplewood, NJ), Paul Chong (Rutherford, NJ), Dominique Parra (Bronx, NY) and Martinez all recieved a thunderous show of support from the over 200 fans in attendance for the crosstown rivals season finale.

"This team showed a lot of character down the stretch, and although we didn't accomplish our goal of making the post-season, I'm proud of the effort and leadership our seniors displayed in the end," commented Head Coach Watson at the conclusion of the game.
