LODI, NJ
(January 19, 2011) - The men's basketball team fell to 9-5 overall and 6-1 in conference play Tuesday evening, as the Felician College Golden Falcons earned a split of the teams' season series by defeating the Bloomfield 85-75. The loss dropped the Deacons' record to 4-4 in road contests this season.
It appeared as if the CACC North Division's top squad was en route to their seventh-straight conference win to start the season, as the Deacons stormed out to an 11-4 lead to get things started and held a 26-19 advantage with eight minutes to go in the first half. The cushion would reach double digits before Felician would counter with a run of its own, orchestrating a 10-3 run to close the frame and cut the Bloomfield lead to three at 39-36 heading into intermission.
The Deacons were able to register the first five points of the second half to widen the gap to six, and were able to keep Felician at bay through the first 15 minutes of the period. But trailing by seven with seven minutes remaining, the Falcons stormed back to knot to within a single point at 71-70 with four minutes to go. The Deacons could not stop their hard-charging adversaries, as Felician outscored Bloomfield 15-4 the rest of the way to earn the win and hand the Deacons their first conference loss.
Senior guard
Gage Daye put forth another brilliant performance in the setback, notching a game-high 32 points to go with seven rebounds, and seven assists.
Ahmad Harris was solid at the point, going for eight points and eight rebounds, while
Robert Young tallied 10 points in the loss. Four Falcons reached double figures for Felician, headlined by Devon Young with 30 points.
The Deacons return to action Saturday, January 22 with a non-conference road test against the University of the District of Columbia. Tip-off is scheduled for 3:00 PM.
