GAME ONE BOX SCORE
GAME TWO BOX SCORE
MONTCLAIR, N.J. - Senior first baseman
Rafael Medina (Key Largo, Fl.) gave Bloomfield a doubleheader sweep with a walk-off solo home run in game two Saturday afternoon, as the baseball team improved to 11-9 overall and a perfect 6-0 in conference play with 7-4, and 2-1 victories over conference rival Wilmington University at Yogi Berra Stadium.
In the opener, junior righty
Luis Nova (Santo Domingo, D.R.) was solid in picking up his fourth victory of the season, going seven innings while surrendering four earned runs. The Deacons were able to jump out early, notching four runs with two outs in the bottom of the second to grab a 4-0 advantage. Bloomfield would engineer an answer for each Wilmington score, tallying a pair of runs in the fifth and a single run in the sixth to put the game out of reach and give the home team the opener. Senior lefty
Eric Kamp (Warwick, N.Y.) went the final two innings on the mound to pick up his third save of the season.
The Deacons totaled 12 hits in the victory, with Medina getting his banner day started with a 3-4 performance in the opener. Senior outfielder
Emilio Fernandez (Woodland Park, N.J.) and sophomore catcher
Reyvis Rivas (Union City, N.J.) went 2-3 and 2-4 respectively with a pair of runs batted in apiece, while sophomore centerfielder
Joe Meola (Maplewood, N.J.) went 2-4 with an RBI.
In game two, senior righty
Luis Mendoza (Brooklyn, N.Y.) went the distance on the mound for the Deacons, going nine innings and allowing just a single earned run while striking out four. Bloomfield could muster just three hits in the contest, but tied the game at one in the bottom of the fifth on an RBI single by
#Michael Judd, Jr.# (Flanders, N.J.). That set the stage for Medina, who with two outs in the bottom of the ninth, belted a solo home run - his league-leading fourth of the season - over the rightfield wall to give Bloomfield the dramatic walk-off victory and earn the team the sweep of the defending CACC Tournament champions.
Bloomfield returns to action Tuesday, March 27 when they welcome Caldwell College for a non-conference contest at Westside Park in Newark, N.J. First pitch for the matchup is scheduled for 3:00 PM.
