Deacons split with Chestnut Hill, move to 10-2 in CACC play

GAME ONE BOX SCORE

GAME TWO BOX SCORE

NEWARK, N.J. -
The Bloomfield College baseball team moved to 16-11 overall and 10-2 in CACC play Friday afternoon, as they split a home conference doubleheader with Chestnut Hill College at Westside Park.  After dropping the opener 10-4 in 13 innings, the Deacons rallied to take the second half of the twinbill 9-2 to earn the split.

Rookie righthander Francesco Scudiero (Brooklyn, N.Y.) was outstanding in picking up his fifth victory of the season in game two, going eight innings while surrendering just a single earned run on four hits and striking out five.  The Deacons were able to jump out to a 9-0 lead over the first five innings of the contest, engineering a four-run bottom of the third inning to take a 5-0 advantage.  Scudiero would not allow a run until the top of the sixth, helping to keep Bloomfield eight games above .500 in conference play and eclipse their conference win total from 2011.

Junior shortstop Jonattan Fernandez (Woodland Park, N.J.) capped his brilliant week for a 4-4 performance in game two, driving in a run and drawing a walk in five trips to the plate.  Sophomore catcher Reyvis Rivas (Union City, N.J.) went 2-4 with a pair of RBIs in the game, while senior first baseman Rafael Medina (Key Largo, Fl.) belted his league-leading sixth home run of the season in the day's first contest.

Bloomfield returns to action Wednesday, April 11 when they welcome the University of the Sciences to Westside Park for a conference doubleheader.  First pitch for the opener is scheduled for Noon.
