Deacons earn split with Post in final CACC series

GAME ONE BOX SCORE

GAME TWO BOX SCORE

DANBURY, Conn. -
The Bloomfield College baseball team moved to 8-31 overall and 6-14 in conference play Wednesday afternoon, as the club split a midweek road doubleheader with CACC rival Post University.  After taking the opener by a 7-3 margin, the Deacons fell in game two, dropping a 5-1 decision.

Timely hitting marked the opener for Bloomfield, as the visitors jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the second on a two-out RBI single by rookie catcher David Rivera (Bay Shore, N.Y.).  The advantage would push to 5-0 in Bloomfield's next trip to the plate, with junior outfielder Paul Chong (Rutherford, N.J.) belting a three-run homer over the right field wall to put the Deacons out in front for good.  Post would rally with a three-run fourth off Bloomfield righty Francesco Scudiero (Brooklyn, N.Y.), but it would be the closest the home team would come to erasing the deficit.  Scudiero would go the distance in the victory, with the Deacons plating a pair of runs in the top of the fifth on a sacrifice fly by Felipe Medrano (Santiago, D.R.) and an RBI single by Reyvis Rivas (Union City, N.J.) to ice the club's sixth conference victory of the season.

Chong finished the contest 2-for-4 with three RBIs in the win, while senior shortstop Anthony Koban (Elmwood Park, N.J.) posted a 3-for-4 performance.

In game two, Post touched Deacons starter Blas Polanco (Paterson, N.J.) for a four-run second inning, putting Bloomfield in a significant hole early in the contest.  The visitors would never recover, mustering just two hits and plating their only run of the game on Chong's second homer of the afternoon in the top of the seventh.  Koban would add the Deacons' other hit in the loss, with the senior notching four hits and three doubles on the afternoon.

Bloomfield returns to action Friday, May 3, when they welcome Caldwell College for a non-conference home game at Yogi Berra Stadium.  First pitch for the matchup is scheduled for 7 p.m., with a pregame ceremony to honor the baseball program's three seniors set to take place prior to the beginning of the action.
