BASEBALL SOARS IN TWO WINS OVER EAGLES KEEPING PLAYOFF HOPES HIGH

Box Score

LITTLE FALLS, NJ - The Bloomfield College baseball team picked up two much needed wins over CACC opponent, Post University. The Deacons secured, 7-6 and 5-4 decisions to keep their post-season hopes alive. Post falls to 7-9 in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) play while Bloomfield evens out at 9-9 in conference action.

GAME 1 BOX SCORE

In Game 1 junior Carlos Flete (Jamaica, NY) hit a walk-off single in the 10th inning scoring senior Joe Meola (Maplewood, NJ) from second base. Flete had plated the Deacons first run of the game when an RBI single drove in Meola from third base in the 5th inning. Seniors Dominique Parra (Bronx, NY) and Paul Chong ( Rutherford, NJ) both went 3-for-5 in Game 1, driving in four of Bloomfield's runs collectively. On the mound, junior Francesco Scudiero (Brooklyn, NY) got the start and pitched 7 solid innings, giving up 2 runs on 6 hits and fanning 9 batters. Scudiero was unable to pick up the decision as the bullpen came on and the Eagles capitalized posting 4 runs in the top of the ninth to draw even. Justin Eclavea (South San Francisco, CA) picked up the win for the Deacons, closing out the ninth inning and held Post scoreless in the tenth setting up Flete's walk-off heroics.

Game 2 found Bloomfield using the 1-run victory formula again, this time junior Ray Lang joining in on the action with a RBI double in the 7th to put the squad up 2-1. Lucas Junger (Waretown, NJ) got the nod on the mound and turned over the reigns after seven and two-thirds, giving up 4 runs on 8 hits. Ariel Tineo (Valley Stream, NY) would come on in relief to closeout the 8th inning, however the Deacons found themselves trailing 4-2 heading into the bottom of the frame. Bloomfield loaded the bases with no outs, knocking Post's starting pitcher Matt Cambria (Toronto, Ontario) off the mound and bringing in reliever Glenn Marrus (Meriden, Conn). Meola stepped to the plate and belted an RBI single to begin the Deacon comeback and two batters later, freshman Ben Thomas (Burlington, NJ) hit a flyball that was mishandled by the center fielder to score 2 more runs. Senior Allen Rivera (Vineland, NJ) closed the door on the Eagles picking up his first save of the year allowing 1 hit and striking out a batter in the 9th.

Bloomfield (10-20-0) will now hit the road to face CACC foe, Concordia College on SUNDAY in a doubleheader matchup with the Deacons clinging to 6th place in the conference and a playoff birth. First pitch is set for 12:00 pm on Clipper Baseball Field.
