Deacons fall to Dominican to conclude 2011 season

BLOOMFIELD - The baseball team concluded its 2011 season by falling to 14-25 overall and 9-11 in CACC play Monday afternoon, as they dropped a 10-1 decision to Dominican College in their regular season finale.

Needing a win Monday and a loss by Chestnut Hill College in their regular season finale against Philadelphia University Tuesday afternoon, the Deacons fell behind in the top of the fourth inning, when a seven-run spurt put the home team in a difficult hole.  A wild pitch would score Dominican's eighth run of the afternoon off reliever Sean Stimpfel, and the Chargers would add a pair of runs in the top of the ninth to move the score to 10-0.

The Bloomfield offense tallied four hits on the afternoon, with Luis Buron driving in the Deacons' lone run in the bottom of the ninth on a sacrifice fly.  Buron added a hit on the afternoon, with Emilio Fernandez, Jason Luzzi and Christian Rosa each adding a hit apiece in the loss.

"Obviously, this game didn't go the way we had hoped, but our guys should be extremely proud of the season they've had," Bloomfield head coach Jeff Watson said.  "We had something to play for on the last day of the season, and that's all you can ask for.  Our seniors have contributed so much to this program over the last four years, and they will certainly be missed.  We made a lot of improvements this season as a program, and we look forward to 2012 and being able to improve even more."
