Deacons use six-run second to roll to victory over Nyack

WEST PALM BEACH, FL (March 10, 2011) - The baseball team improved to 4-11 on the season Thurdsay afternoon, as they snapped their four-game losing streak with a 7-2 victory over CACC foe Nyack College.

The Deacons were able to capitalize on a pair of Nyack errors in the bottom of the second, scoring six runs with two outs to stake starter Sean Stimpfel to a 6-0 advantage.  After Alex Sepulveda scored on a wild pitch to get Bloomfield on the board, Anderson Minyetty notched an RBI single to score the club's second run of the day.  Rafael Medina followed two hitters later with an RBI double, and a two-run single off the bat of senior outfielder Alberto Ruiz moved the inning's total to six runs.

The offensive outburst would prove to be all Stimpfel would need to pick up his first victory of the season, as the lefty yielded two runs over six innings while striking out seven and walking none.  The Warriors would threaten in the top of the fifth inning, but the southpaw induced a 6-4-3 double play with the bases full to end the threat and squash the hopes of a Nyack comeback.

An RBI groundout by David Nieves moved the lead to 7-2 in the bottom of the frame, the Bloomfield bullpen trio of Dave Ricci, John Vilichka and Rafael Cruz tossing three scoreless innings to nail down the club's second victory on their annual Florida trip.

"It's great to get a win and get back to playing winning baseball," Bloomfield head coach Jeff Watson said.  "We did a lot of things really well today, and just played a well-played game all the way around.  As long as you are playing good baseball, good things will happen, and we showed that today.  Hopefully this can start to build some momentum for us as we move into our conference schedule."

Medina notched a pair of doubles in a 3-4 day at the plate, while Joe Meola continued his hot streak with a 2-3 afternoon.  Ruiz, Nieves, Minyetty, Luis Buron and Emilio Fernandez each notched a hit apiece in the victory.

The team returns to action Saturday, March 12, when they take on Southern Connecticute State University in their Florida finale.  First pitch is scheduled for 6:00 PM.
